SFOL Merger News

Postby AdmShuni » Thu Jun 09, 2005 5:11 pm

Greetings,

Yes, the rumors are true. SFOL and FSF have been in talks for 3 months on a potential merger between both groups. Over the past 3 months, we've been working with them on the details of a joining. SFOL has voted overwhelmingly to join the FSF as a subfleet. Over the next two weeks, Fleet Command will be deciding on this merger, and once approved, integration will begin.

What does this mean for you? It means over 80 new players, 8 new sims and 15 hosts will be joining our ranks, our message boards, our website AMS and our community. While not everything has been finalized, they will become "Space Fleet" within the FSF, with both Scott2 and MikeM joining Fleet Command. Each of their COs and XOs would become FSF hosts, with FSF names, and their sims added to the AMS. Over the next few months, their players would join the AMS and be assigned to their games.

We're hoping over the next year, integration will be complete and their hosts, players and community will become one with ours. They will retain their rights as a subfleet, but as always, their GMs will start cohosting with our GMs and new sims will develop. It's possible that new fleets might develop as expansion occurs. While it is tradition and only appropriate that each fleet within the FSF develop its own community and sense of family, SFOL will join FSF with that already and share that with us as the months and years flow by. They have a rich and vibrant history (over 14 years) and are definately an asset to us.

I'm sure you all have questions and comments, so feel free to share in this thread. Complete details are not yet available, but ask away, we will answer the best we can. Thanks.

With the immediate infusion of more than 80 players, it stands to reason that current sims will pick up new members. Just as the SFOL games should pick up new members from our pool of over 500 players. Stargate is a very popular genre, and one that SFOL currently does not have games for. I expect that this new simming opportunity will be something many of their players will want to look into.

The website hyperlink is in Shuni's message, just click the first occurence of "SFOL".

I think it's pretty amazing how the first place I ever started simming is actually joining FSF. It's pretty amazing how great FSF really is.

Ah, good...more people for me to corrupt...thanks Shuni. More people to add to your personal bodyguard. ::grin:: Okay, boss, I'm curious...do they have any other sims besides Star Trek, and on their Star Trek sims, are there any kinds that we may not have (i.e.- a purely Marine email or MB sim, Cardie sim ::would like one of those::, more ENT-era sims, Mirror Universe, or maybe even a real-life sim, etc.)? And do they have a website right now?

What about the sims that have the same name in both fleets, namely Endevour ((SFOL Endeavour)) and the USS Stargazer ((SFOL also has a Stargazer.))?

Their website has already been posted aboved.

They have a Star Wars era chat simulation. They also have a couple Starbase/Outpost type games. You'd have to read into more about their individual sims to get a better sense of what each one is about.

Once they are in the AMS, you will be able to read more about them like you do FSF sims. We will also be helping each sim create a website (if they do not have one).

Names can overlap, we won't make them change their names or even their sim times if they overlap.

There will just be more than one Stargazer. Their Endevour I believe is chat and ours is email so that solves that.

Yeah, but only in the instance of the overlaping names. Otherwise, I see this as great protential for growth for both simming leagues. :)
